Summary:

The Virtualization Engineer is responsible for the implementation and operational support of all aspects of client's Virtualization Infrastructure. The Infrastructure supports servers, desktops, terminal servers, networks, application virtualization and storage. The role requires a solid understanding of VMware virtualization products and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, configuration and operational problems across the VMware and Wintel platforms.

Essential Functions:
  • Builds, installs, configures and maintains VMware products including ESXi servers, HA clusters and Virtual Center
  • Provides advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of the entire Virtualization Infrastructure
  • Develops and implements the backup plan across all virtual systems and performs annual recovery tests to ensure RPO and RTO targets can be met
  • Researches root cause of problems and escalates to engineering and vendor support as necessary
  • Manages problem and service tickets ensuring timely resolution to meet Service Level Agreements
  • Develops new and leverages existing automation, scripts, and monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues
  • Participates in 24x7 On-Call rotation schedule

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT or similar technical field
  • Requires 5+ years of experience in VMware vSphere 5.x, including: ESXi, vMotion, DRS, VMware HA, Clustering, Host Isolation, vCenter Server, Update Manager, vCOps 5.x, vROps 6.x,
  • Must possess exceptionally high customer service skills and excellent customer support
  • Requires Certifications: VMware Certified Professional 5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV), Citrix Certified Associate - Virtualization CCA – V
  • Requires experience with ESX Environments that span multiple Data Centers consisting of at least 20 ESX physical host servers
  • Requires experience with Cisco UCS as a compute Platform for VMWare ESX Environments
  • Requires hands on technical experience with and very knowledgeable about backup and restoration of VMWare hosted Virtual Machines
  • Requires excellent analytical and problems solving skills VMWare ESX, Fiber Channel, iSCSI and Windows Operating Systems (Server and Client)
  • Ability to operate in an "agile" environment
  • Requires experience with an automated ITSM based ticket tracking systems (FrontRange Solutions HEAT, Remedy, Cherwell, etc.)
  • Requires experience working with projects including writing/documenting technical procedures or training
  • Requires strong technical skills, as well as the ability to work independently with multiple tasks
  • Requires strong oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Preferred experience with PCI-DSS, and/or ITIL v3 Foundations
